4. Sentinelese tribe - The most isolated community in the world
The Sentinelese tribe lives on Sentinel Island (India) with about 500 members. Their lives mainly revolve around hunting, gathering and fishing, but they especially do not use fire. This tribe has a confrontational attitude and attacks every stranger who encroaches on their territory. Therefore, little is known about this tribe, as well as about their unique language and culture. They are one of the communities isolated from the outside world, refusing all communication. When discovering strangers, members of the tribe are ready to face them with arrows.
The Sentinelese people live mainly by hunting, gathering and fishing. There is no evidence of their use of fire, livestock or agriculture. In 2004, they miraculously survived the tsunami. To this day, the reason they overcame this disaster remains a mystery. The Korowai, another community known for their isolated lifestyle, have been in contact with the outside world since the 1970s. They are described as people who live like primitive times, men wearing loincloths, women wearing dress made from grass, hunting and gathering. They build houses high in trees to avoid flies, wild animals, and predators. These houses are usually 8-12 meters high, the highest can be up to 35 meters. They treated diseases with herbs, leading to high death rates from malaria, tuberculosis, elephantiasis or anemia, especially due to the belief that the sick died from a demon in human form, called ' khakhua'. This is also the source of rumors that they actually cannibalized the natives, believing they did so to protect their communities.
