Top 10 Most Stupid Thieves in the World

Around the world, there have been many perfectly orchestrated robberies that have baffled authorities. But alongside those, there have also been quite a few bizarre and comical thefts. Let's take a look at some of the most "silly" thieves!

1. Arrested for living a virtual life.

On January 13, 2016, the Lima Police Department's Facebook page announced that Donald Pugh had been arrested at the Escambia County Sheriff's Office in Florida, along with thanks for the whistleblower calls and media assistance. After seeing his wanted photo on Facebook, he complained that the photo posted by the Lima Police Department in Ohio was too ugly and proactively... sent a selfie requesting a replacement.

To appease the "social media addict," the Lima Police Department replaced the old, ugly photo with the new one sent by Donald. Thanks to this silly act, the police were able to track down the criminal much more easily!

2. The desire to become famous.

It's unclear what this thief was thinking, but he filmed his entire act of stealing and... posted it online. That's Andrew Kellet, 23, a car enthusiast from Leeds. Kellet committed a series of traffic violations and recorded them on video.

Kelllet was so self-satisfied with his actions that he uploaded these videos to the internet. Around 80 videos were discovered by police, ranging from stealing gasoline to illegal street racing. Leeds City Councillor Les Carter said: "Kellett seems to be the most idiotic criminal in Leeds." And of course, he was caught shortly after. The police and the people of Leeds must have had a good laugh!

3. Two thieves got lost in Canada.

Two thieves from Edmonton, Canada, broke into a gas station in Vancouver in September 1981. They then left the station with the stolen goods.

However, during their escape, the two thieves became disoriented and turned into another gas station to ask for directions. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the same gas station they had robbed earlier, and the two foolish thieves were quickly apprehended.

4. Arrested for defecating in the homeowner's bedroom

Another case of a thief caught for a ridiculous reason. A 39-year-old man surnamed Zhang, living in Henan Province (China), was tried for a series of theft and robbery charges. According to local media, this man had started his thieving career four years ago, committing one robbery and up to 287 other thefts.

The most ironic thing is that when breaking into a house to commit theft, he suddenly needed to defecate and did so right next to the homeowner's bed before leaving without taking anything.

He was eventually caught because police used DNA from his feces to identify the thief.

5. Arrested for forgetting to log out of Facebook.

The phrase "world's dumbest burglar" also appeared in Minnesota, USA, in 2014. Nicholas Wig, a 26-year-old burglar, broke into a resident's home, stole a few things, and then used the homeowner's computer to check his Facebook account. However, he later forgot to log out of Facebook and was caught.

6. He was deaf but still committed robbery, so he didn't hear the alarm.

In August 1995, Klaus Schmidt stormed into a Berlin bank with a handgun and demanded cash. But strangely, when a bank employee asked if he needed a bag to hold the money, the robber replied, "Damn it, of course this is a real gun!"

This small detail helped witnesses realize the robber was deaf. Taking advantage of the situation, an employee pressed the alarm button. Despite the loud ringing, the robber calmly continued threatening the employees, completely unaware.

When police arrived, they quickly arrested Klaus Schmidt. However, Schmidt later filed a counterclaim against the bank for exploiting his disability.

7. Greedy for free beer, 19 escaped prisoners were caught.

In 2011, police in Derbyshire, England, employed a strategy of catching criminals with free beer. Undercover officers posed as vendors and spread the word that escaped prisoners had won a case of beer.

To claim the beer, the "winners" had to contact the awarding company. Enticed by the offer, 19 escapees contacted the location to collect their prize. Sadly, when they arrived, there was no free beer, only police officers ready to escort them back to prison.

8. The robber left his phone number for… easy contact.

In 2008, 18-year-old Ruben Zarate attempted to rob an auto exhaust shop in Chicago, USA. He entered the shop with a gun and demanded all the cash in the store. However, the cash was in a safe that only the manager could open.

So, the naive Ruben decided to leave his phone number with the employees and tell them to call him when the manager returned. Naturally, the store employees called the Chicago police.

The police immediately arrived at the scene and told the employees to call the robber back. Sure enough, Zarate returned to "collect the money." After a brief shootout, the police apprehended the 18-year-old robber.

9. Disguising themselves as trees to commit theft.

Greg Liascos, 36, of Portland, Oregon, was arrested after disguising himself as a tree and breaking into the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Oregon.

A gardener at the museum discovered broken pieces of brick scattered in the garden. Following the trail, he found a large hole in the wall of a restroom at the back of the museum, which led to an elevator.

The gardener immediately called the police. However, the police found no sign of the thief. Finally, they decided to enlist the help of K9 units, and this time Liascos was forced to reveal himself.

Although he didn't manage to steal any specimens from the museum, Liascos is facing charges of "bizarre burglary" and awaits trial.

10. The thief broke into the kitchen through the ventilation duct.

On March 18, 2011, a burglar in the US named Sipp Jani nearly died when he broke into a victim's kitchen through a ventilation duct.

Unfortunately for him, he became completely trapped in the duct opening. Furthermore, he almost fell into a pan of boiling oil below. The image of the trapped burglar was captured by the police.
