10. Akashi Kaikyo Bridge - Japan
In English, Pearl Bridge is another name for the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The bridge, which is 3,911 meters long overall with a main span of 1,991 meters and two side spans of 960 meters, was put into service on April 5, 1998. Two robust girder systems with joints that can sustain water currents, earthquakes with a Richter scale of 8.5, and winds of up to 286 km/h (178 mph) are used in the bridge's design. The bridge is expected to cost 500 billion yen, or roughly $5 billion USD, in all. It is anticipated that tolls will cover this expense.
