The University of Pennsylvania is a private, non-profit university in the Ivy League located in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Established in 1740, this is one of the 9 oldest universities in America founded when it was a British colony (before the US Declaration of Independence). The school has strengths in basic sciences, anthropology, law, medicine, education, engineering and business according to a modern liberal arts program.
Founded in 1765, the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania was the first medical school in America. The school focuses on patient care, biomedical research and medical training. Perelman has more than 2,300 faculty members. The school is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Chester County Hospital and Lancaster General Hospital.
